Friday night witnessed the coming together of the genders with both our Prestige Reality Men and Women hosting Beachhaven @ Campbells Bay. We had a great crowd full of interesting people watching the tennis, grazing on fine roast beef rolls and washing it down with a drink or two. Particularly pleasing was the number of juniors who were out to support their coaches.
Prestige Reality ladies do it in style
The Prestige Reality ladies team were magnificent in dispatching the visitors with a comfortable 6-0 win. In total they dropped only 16 games in 6 matches. Rosie Cheng had the rare privilege of of not dropping a game in either her singles or doubles. This leaves them top of the table after three rounds. Well done ladies. Prestige Reality come from behind
The Prestige Reality men’s team
started their defence in retreat after the singles matches they found
themselves in a deep hole losing 3 of the 4 singles matches. Alex
Klintcharov gaining our solitary point with a straight sets win over
Aiden McDougal. Adam Thompson lost a close encounter in three sets.
This left the defending champions with it all to do in the doubles.
We needed to win the remaining two matches in straight sets to have a
chance. Adam Thompson and Jackson Bodle took on Rhett Purcell and
Niko Vulinovich winning the first set 6-1. The second set was closer
affair until the tiebreak with Adam and Jackson taking the set and
match 7-6. The second doubles pair of Adam Staub and former Campbells
Bay Club Champion Kevin Doh taking on Gorin Gerdin and Matt Alexander
winning in straight sets 6-4 6-4. This resulted in Campbells Bay
winning on a count back 5-3. Well done boys. For full results see
Upcoming matches
We have three home games left for the season. Next week 22nd February 2013 see our men take on the highly fancied Mairangi Bay and our ladies take on Takapuna @ home. Do come down and join us as the Chelsea Cup Campaign continues.
Finally
Q: What did one tennis ball say to the other tennis ball?
A: “See you round..”
