MARCH 2018

Things are really heating up….the men are on track to make the Semi’s! Their last round robin match this Friday 23rd at HOME vs Beach Haven should hopefully secure their position. Our women have also put in a strong performance this year and will be in the play-offs, their venue is still to be advised.

We then have a break for the Easter Weekend and then play resumes on the 6th of April.

Club Survey:
Just a reminder to please complete the club survey by this Wednesday 21st March.

Senior Club Days: Every Wednesday evening from 7pm and Sundays from 2pm (except public holidays). Just a reminder that strong junior interclub players are welcome to attend Senior Club Days.

Ken Grant: A long standing member of the club passed away recently. A tournament will be organised later in the year in honour of Ken. He loved the game and showed us all that it is a game that can be played for a lifetime!

A Veteran…to be or not to be?
There has been a little bit of confusion over this. So to clarify you qualify as a Veteran member if you are over 65 and have also been a member for 10 years.

Court Gates:
Please remember to remove the brick from the gate if you are the last players off the courts.

Club Power & Fuse Box:
We recently had a fuse box burn out on Friday 2nd March, this was attended to immediately and a completely new unit that can accommodate the increases in power running through the club house and floodlights has been installed.

Court Lights:
We are aware that 2 light bulbs need replacing as well as the correction of the downward facing light on court 6. This will be fixed timeously.

New Solar Powered Motion Sensor Lights:
These will be installed to optimise lighting when court and club room lights are off.

Club Safety and maintenance:
Please alert any safety, security or maintenance issues to the committee.

Facebook & website:
Remember to check out our facebook page and website. Please forward any photos you may wish have put on the club website to Sam Oh

Clubroom users:
Members are reminded to please leave the clubrooms tidy. That is, tables wiped, chairs re-positioned, rubbish cleared and kitchen area cleared and cleaned after use. Used glasses are to go in the dishwasher and not left scattered around the club or by the water dispenser.

Treasurer wanted.
As most of you are aware, our Treasurer Kate Price, is stepping down from the 1st April after six years of service. With this in mind we are appealing to any member who is prepared to “put their hand up” and take on the position. It would ideally suits somebody with an accounting or book keeping background but this is not essential. Ideally we would like you to attend monthly meetings as this will help us with work flow. However, this is not a prerequisite. Please contact Ross if you wish to put your name forward.

The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board/Auckland Council is developing an Open Space Management Plan to manage the 300 parks they are responsibility for.  This plan will be a high level policy document that will assist the local board to make quality decisions about:

· how our parks are used

· how the special values of our parks will be protected, and

· what needs to be considered when developing and enhancing our parks over the next 10 years.

Our Club has been identified as a stakeholder with an interest in one or more Hibiscus and Bays parks and The Council are seeking your views on what values we should protect and enhance, and what activities we should enable on the parks. The Council project team will use your feedback to inform the draft open space management plan which will be publicly notified mid-2018.

Please submit your comments to the March 30th. The Executive Committee will then forward your feedback to Council.
